A.D.A.S

Advanced Driver Assistance System

This system is designed to provide the driver with enhanced safety features but its functionality relies on equipment that is directly mounted to your vehicle. Look closely and you may find discrete sensors on the bumpers, sensors behind emblems, and more sensors near the center rear view mirror. Once any of these parts are moved or replaced, the technology system needs to be recalibrated for proper accuracy.

ADAS can be grouped into two categories:

Systems that automate and adapt to your driving

(automatic emergency braking systems)

Systems that help improve driver awareness

(lane departure warning systems)

Windshield replacement isn’t what it used to be

This is due to the numerous safety features your car is equipped with. Newer models of  list specific models vehicle is like a computer on wheels, filled with cameras and sensors that need to be perfectly calibrated after an accident or after glass replacement.

What’s so different now?

Today’s vehicles are equipped with advanced driver assistance systems that make an enormous difference to your safety and the safety of passengers, pedestrians, and other drivers.

Different manufacturers (like Honda, Lexus, Cadillac) may refer to their features by different names but here are common A.D.A.S Systems you may recognize:

WHY DOES IT NEED CALIBRATION?

Huge manufacturers like Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Lexus etc all state that recalibration is vital to ensure your safety. When your windshield is replaced, every millimeter counts, a change in camera angle of just one degree can have a huge impact on the camera’s viewing area.
Imagine this: Think of how adaptive cruise control works, you’re usually driving at high velocity and a sensor is used to accurately measure the distance of the moving vehicle ahead. The dangers of an uncalibrated sensor can be astronomical.

WHEN DOES IT NEED CALIBRATION?

Modern Vehicles come equipped with many sensors that may require calibration if the following events have occured:

What can I expect?

Calibration is a complex process that requires special equipment and training. The new glass has to settle and the special adhesive needs to be fully dry before the A.D.A.S. recalibration takes place. In addition, some manufacturers require that the vehicle be driven on the highway for a certain number of miles for the calibration to be completed.

How long does it take?

Due to OEM recommendations, we require that our customers drop off their vehicles for the day.

Glass replacement:

Estimated 2 hours

I had the unfortunate rock hit my windshield and needed it replaced. I decided to use mass auto glass instead of safelite and I’m so glad I did. I gave them my insurance referral number and the glass was there the next day. They replaced the glass and did the calibration And I was able to pick the car up that evening. Fast and efficient. I would definitely recommend them to everyone.
